Going to a Blue Jays Spring Training game.

This memory is a carry over from last year’s list. Spring Training, which is something I look forward to every March, was cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic. The fact that my beloved Toronto Blue Jays play in Dunedin, Florida, the city where I live, makes me unbelievably happy. Heck! Their player development complex is literally right behind where I live!

In the 6 years I’ve lived in Florida since returning from Thailand, I’ve attended a Blue Jays game during Spring Training each year they played. This year, watching them in their newly renovated stadium felt different. It was more significant.

Perhaps it was because I missed out seeing them last year before COVID-19 shut everything down. Perhaps it was because it felt so good to be back in a stadium, watching a professional sporting event in person (yes, there were precautions in place to make it safer). Perhaps it was because I’ve been extremely homesick over the past 12 months, and seeing my Boys in Blue gave me the tiniest taste of home. Perhaps it was that I went with one of my new friends and had a great time. Or, perhaps it was a combination of all these.

Honestly, it didn’t matter to me who won the game. But it was nice to see the Blue Jays stomp the Phillies 7-1. The rain that was forecasted held off, and the overcast weather meant it was neither uncomfortably hot, nor did I get sunburned.

It’s a great memory to have, and I find myself replaying it my mind often. I may just have to go to one of the games the Blue Jays are playing in Dunedin to start the season, because the pandemic is preventing them from returning to their home field up in Toronto. Sounds like I need to take advantage of that!

Follow along and make memories.
