Tracking the path of Hurricane Mindy.

For those that don’t know, the annual lists of tropical storm names are compiled 6 years in advance. At the beginning of the year, when I was putting together the items on my Memory List, I knew that Mindy was going to be a storm I could track this summer, and that knowledge brought equalContinue reading “Tracking the path of Hurricane Mindy.”

Taking a trip to St. Augustine.

I had visited St. Augustine twice before. The first time, budget restrictions kept me in cheap lodgings and sightseeing from the outskirts, because I didn’t want to spend money on entrance fees. The only thing I splurged on was a walking ghost tour. The second time, I walked through the beautiful sand dunes of AnastasiaContinue reading “Taking a trip to St. Augustine.”

Picking blueberries and making pancakes with them.

Oh, blueberries. The thought of them conjures up memories of picking them at my family’s cottage in Ontario. They grow wild there, close to the rocky shores of the lake and along the 1.6 km dirt road from the county highway. In my mind, they’ve always been a late summer fruit, because they’re ripe inContinue reading “Picking blueberries and making pancakes with them.”

Going to a Blue Jays Spring Training game.

This memory is a carry over from last year’s list. Spring Training, which is something I look forward to every March, was cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic. The fact that my beloved Toronto Blue Jays play in Dunedin, Florida, the city where I live, makes me unbelievably happy. Heck! Their player development complexContinue reading “Going to a Blue Jays Spring Training game.”

Going to the Florida Keys for a vacation.

Years ago, I went to Key Largo for a day trip from Miami. I went on a snorkeling tour with Ligeia, my ex-wife (ooph, that’s still weird for me to write), and my seasickness also decided to tag along. I ended up losing my lunch and chumming the waters. It wasn’t really a nice memoryContinue reading “Going to the Florida Keys for a vacation.”

Taking pictures of flowers at the botanical gardens.

For as long as I’ve been taking pictures, which admittedly, I can’t pinpoint exactly when that started, I have thoroughly enjoyed photographing flowers. There’s something intriguing about looking at life on a macro level, appreciating the colors in the frame, and finding the most pleasing depth of focus. I suppose that’s why I find studyingContinue reading “Taking pictures of flowers at the botanical gardens.”

Playing (and winning!) in the Fort Lauderdale softball tournament.

Even with the COVID pandemic raging on, in the midst of the Fall surge experts expected, the softball tournament in Fort Lauderdale over the Thanksgiving weekend was never in doubt. In some ways, I suppose that’s a good thing, because I had been looking forward to playing in this tourney since I wrote my MemoryContinue reading “Playing (and winning!) in the Fort Lauderdale softball tournament.”

Kayaking in Weeki Wachee.

Tourists may know of Weeki Wachee Springs as being the home of mermaids. It’s apparently an attraction that draws a high number of visitors. I can pretty much guarantee you, though, I will not be one of them. Seeing humans dressed in mermaid costumes, swimming in a pool, will never be on my Memory List.Continue reading “Kayaking in Weeki Wachee.”
